FREE DEMONSTRATIONS IN POPULAR DEMAND!
If you weren’t able to get to the 40th Annual NQA Show last June in Columbus, OH, you missed some great FREE demonstrations by NQA Certified Teachers at the NQA Booth.
Sandy Turner, Santa Maria, CA, shared her hand appliqué techniques during a demonstration on Thursday.
Mary Zesiger, from Mt. Gretna, PA, demonstrated her hand quilting prowess during Friday’s demonstrations. Mary had hand-outs available and spent a lot of time showing old and new quilters how hand quilting can be accomplished with a little bit of practice.
Last, but certainly not least, Jennifer McCann, of Galena, OH, did almost non-stop demonstrations on Saturday of her “Down and Dirty Borders and Bindings.”
For those who saw these demonstrations, it is hoped that the excitement of learning a new skill or creative technique generated an interest to learn additional skills and perhaps open a door to the possibilities beyond the basics of quilt making. Be sure to join us in June of 2010 for even more demonstrations by our veteran NQA Certified Teachers.
2009/2010 GRANTS
The National Quilting Association, Inc is pleased to announce the 2009 Grant Recipients!
This year the Grant Review Committee evaluated twenty four applications and recommended funding for
twelve applicants. Click here to read about those receiving grants for
2009.
Each year, The National Quilting Association offers financial support in the form of grant awards for
projects that fall within the following areas:
- Education of quiltmakers
- Original research into the historical documentation of quilts, quiltmakers and subjects related
to quiltmaking
- Research on social history related to quilts
- Outreach to the community through the art of quiltmaking.
More complete information is available on the Grant Program page. The
availability of grant funds is dependent upon the success of the annual Little Quilt Auction, held in
conjunction with the annual quilt show. Therefore, the number of grants awarded each year, and their
amounts, varies with the success of those fundraising efforts.
Applications for the 2010 Grant Program are now
available. Completed applications must be received no later than 4 PM, OCTOBER 15, 2009.
All applicants will be notified in January 2010. Funds for successful grant seekers will be paid as soon
as their award contract is returned.

SHOW NEWS
The NQA 40th Annual Quilt Show was a fantastic show. If you were not able to attend, you missed wonderful quilts,
vendors, classes and fun. The show was very successful and I want to thank everyone involved. We could not have done
it without everyone's help. As usual, the show could not happen without volunteers and again you pitched in to help.
This was my first year as Show Director and I could not have pulled it off without the help of my wonderful, dedicated staff.
Thank you Bobbie Brooks, Diane Dadisman, Leslie Floyd, Diane Harris, Lynn Kough, Jo Lischynski, Jennifer Perkins, Judy Taylor,
Sue Uncapher, Gail Wadley, Linda Zupnick and Kathy Ward. A special thanks goes out to Janet White for her help with publicity
and Lynn Kough for all her guidance.
I want to shout thank you to Bobbie Brooks, Leslie Floyd, Robin Ringe, Glen Taylor and Judy Taylor. You went above and
beyond the expected and I will appreciate your help forever.
Please mark your calendar for next year. The NQA 41st Annual Quilt Show will be held June 17-19, 2010. We again will have a
wonderful lineup of vendors and classes. The theme for 2010 will be "Trees" so if you have a tree quilt, I hope you will
consider sharing it with us. The registration brochure will be mailed in the winter Quilting Quarterly and all show info will
be posted to the website approximately January 1st. Keep your eye out for it and register early so you don't miss out on your
favorite class.

New-Bee Quilt Workshops
The 2010 NQA show will introduce a new program designed especially to teach beginning quilters. This is a fabulous opportunity to
bring your friends, daughters, sons, or granddaughters (or anyone else) to see what quilting is all about and why we enjoy it so much!
The Bee-ginning workshops will emphasize basic quiltmaking skills for novice and wanna-bee quilters. The workshops are only one-half
day long to allow plenty of time to see all the quilts on display and the quilting product vendors at the show! So bring along your
friends to see what quilting is all about.
Featuring:
Karen Kay Buckley, Wendy Butler Berns, Sally Collins, Rita Fishel, Linda J. Hahn, Klaudeen Hansen, Fran Kordek, Margaret Miller,
Jo Morton, Nancy Prince, Anita Shackelford, Sarah Ann Smith, Mary Stori, Carol Taylor, Linda Taylor, Sandy Turner and more.
Plus Rebecca Barker’s exclusive artwork
CERTIFIED JUDGES PROGRAM
The NQA is the only national organization with a certification program for quilt judges. There are
currently 77
Certified Judges qualified to judge quilt shows of all sizes throughout the
country.
Each year three Certified Judges work together to judge the quilts submitted to the Annual
NQA Quilt Show. This is accomplished with the assistance from numerous Certified Judges and candidates.
Everyone involved continues their education while volunteering in a national venue.
