#802 LEARNING TO LOVE TEMPLATES (M)

Sally Collins - Full day - Confident Beginner

These will be the most accurate templates you have ever made, I promise! Templates are tools that give high rewards and improve our potential for both quality and custom work... they support total freedom in design and will expand your quiltmaking experience. Using a traditional style block, this class will focus on how to MAKE accurate templates, how to accurately CUT FABRIC using those templates and then accurately SEW the block together.

Supplies: Appropriate thread color as we will open some seams; ungridded and unrolled template plastic (do not bring the kind you can iron on); permanent pen (not a Pigma pen); marking tool(s) that will show up on the wrong side of your fabrics; 1/16" hole punch or tapestry needle; Exacto knife or small Olfa box cutter; accurate rulers (I use the 3" x 18" Omnigrid ruler with the fine black line continuous grid all over it and the 4" sq. ruler with the same grid); rotary mat (regular one and a smaller one for sub-cutting); small cutter (18mm) in addition to your regular cutter; 12" flannel or batting covered foam core board to lay out your work; seam ripper; scissors; fine (.4mm) pins; basic sewing supplies; Fabric - Use 100% good quality cotton. Bring a fat quarter of two fabrics that contrast - one for the star; one for the background - printed or solids. Solids are valuable to use because they reveal any and all discrepancies unlike prints that can camouflage discrepancies. Remember this is a process class, not a project class.

#805 SENSUOUS LINES AND CURVES (YM)

Carol Taylor - Full day - Confident Beginner

project image for Class #805 Do you love the look of those really skinny lines and curves, but don't know how to make them? Now is your chance to learn. Carol shares the secrets of piecing them, and you can make the practice blocks into a lovely wall quilt full of those "sensuous lines and curves"! Start with piecing simple lines, cut improvisationally, on small pieces of fabric that will turn into 7-1/2" blocks. The middle section of "sensuous lines and curves" is made by couching and becomes the centerpiece for the quilt. All of this is done with no pinning and a minimal amount of measuring to free you up and allow you to think outside of the box. You'll also learn how to finish your quilts with facings instead of bindings. You'll be thrilled with the resulting small quilt, which you can do in any 4-5 basic colors you like.

Supplies: Contact Carol (ctquilts@rochester.rr.com) for a complete list with check off boxes and photos. This will make gathering your supplies easier.
