Needlework has been a part of Janet's life for as long as she can recall. As a girl many hours were spent with embroidery projects, and her favorite was Swedish weaving. She credits her mother and grandmother for teaching her to stitch, and even more important, for instilling a love and respect for all things made by hand. Janet made her first "quilt" in the late ‘60s - with 4-in. corduroy squares left from clothing she made for herself. She still has the quilt and it is still warm!
A member of NQA for almost 20 years, Janet has enjoyed many NQA quilt shows and appreciates the opportunity to take classes with such a wide variety of teachers. Her love of any celebration involving fabric led her to accept the position of National Quilting Day Coordinator. Janet is always willing to help the organization in any way she can and has quietly served many roles for NQA. She currently serves as Outreach Chairman as well as National Quilting Day Coordinator.
Always eager to learn a new technique, Janet has been able to take classes from many nationally known teachers and has an extensive collection of quilting books... and fabric, of course. She hopes some day to find time to teach, especially beginner's classes. Janet belongs to several
Columbus
quilt groups as well as the American Quilt Study Group. She is also a founding member of Ohio Quilts!! She earned a B.S. in Agriculture from The Ohio State University with a dual major in natural resources and communications.
Quilting has come full circle for Janet - her serious interest in quilting started in the early 1980s while watching Penny McMorris' quilting program on PBS, and her first quilt book was the text which accompanied the program. The last few years, the only quilts she's "finished" reside on her hard drive in EQ5, with Penny McMorris as tech support!
