Marcia’s exposure to quilting began at a young age as her grandmother, whom she adored, quilted. By high school and college Marcia was making pieced and tied comforters for different dorm rooms and apartments. Embroidery and painting were other early hobbies. Many a pair of jeans were covered with embroidery. One summer spending money was earned by painting and selling T-shirts. The French Impressionists were a favorite subject.
Marcia graduated from the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry and opened a small dental practice in her hometown of Bay City, Michigan. Her love of quilting was rekindled when one her patients talked her into joining a quilting group that had formed at the local museum. The rest is history and she will forever be grateful to her! That was 18 years ago.
Today Marcia is an award winning quiltmaker whose quilts have been exhibited nationally and internationally. She teaches quiltmaking techniques, particularly applique. She is also proud to be a quilt judge certified by the NQA in 2001 and is qualified to judge masterpiece quilts. Marcia was one of the judges for the 2006 annual NQA quilt show.
Marcia belongs to the Bay Heritage Quilters Guild which is an NQA Chapter Guild. She is a past president and past and current show chair for her guild. She also belongs to several other quilting organizations.
Having sold her dental practice, Marcia continues to teach part-time in the dental hygiene program at the local community college. She is also dabbling in selling real estate. Her life is now much more stress-free. Unfortunately, she somewhat misses the stress because quilting is such a great stress reliever and she used to get much more done!
