From the NQA President,

Judy Taylor

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and have been successful in getting some quilting projects finished. With the intolerable heat many of you suffered through, it was definitely a good time to stay indoors and work on your entry for next year's quilt show. Mark your calendars now for the 43rd Annual NQA Quilt Show, June 14-16, 2012. Don't forget to watch for exciting show updates in the winter issue of the Quilting Quarterly (QQ).

I would like to welcome and introduce the new NQA President-Elect, Ruth Pollow. Ruth brings to NQA extensive leadership experience not only on the Guild level, but in the business and consulting areas as well. We look forward to working with Ruth and welcome her contributions this coming year.

One of our priorities this year was to improve communication between the NQA chapters and the Board. We started this effort by posting our monthly Chapter Newsletter via iContact. We have been very encouraged to see a select few of the chapters actually cut and paste this posting directly into their newsletters. Our Chapter Chair Coordinator, Sue Castelli, reviews all of the chapter newsletters she receives and has noticed a majority of the newsletters do not reflect any notices or information regarding NQA. As such, I would like to request that your chapter provide space in your respective newsletters to inform members about important NQA events (the quilt show, a call for nominations, National Quilting Day, etc) or announcements. We know that many of the chapters have a minimum number of NQA members, but there is still important, relative information we would appreciate you sharing.

Until next time, Happy Quilting!

Judy Taylor, President
The National Quilting Association

From the Chapter Chair Coordinator,

Sue Castelli

Summer heat has decreased some activities, but NQA chapters are just warming up with the start of another season of creativity and fellowship. None of the current NQA chapters have a show scheduled for August, but we have a few planned for September:

CHAPTER SHOWCASE

The Ohio Valley Quilters Guild from Cincinnati, OH will have a great display of talent on the Chapter Showcase webpage this month. Please take time to view the great work from this chapter — you could be inspired to create something new!

RAFFLE/OPPORTUNITY QUILT DISPLAY

Starting Monday, August 15, the Raffle Quilt on the NQA's Homepage will be from the Charlottesville Area Quilters Guild in VA. Take a look at this "block buster" and be amazed at its beauty and the talent that created it!.

REMINDERS TO NQA CHAPTER REPS AND CHAPTER OFFICERS:

If your chapter is planning a quilt show in the next year, please list the dates of the show, etc. on the NQA's Calendar of Events page on the website (www.nqaquilts.org). Information from this site is shared with other chapters in the monthly newsletter and in THE QUILTING QUARTERLY magazine.

Also, many states and municipalities have enacted new regulations regarding the sale of raffle/opportunity quilts — including the necessity to obtain a license to sell raffle tickets even for charitable purposes. We strongly recommend that each chapter review the regulations that are applicable to their area when they are planning to produce a raffle/opportunity quilt.

Don't forget to come and visit the NQA Facebook page — come on over!

From the Quilting Quarterly Editor,

Barbara Polston

The Show Special Edition of The Quilting Quarterly is on its way to you! Check out page 3 for your chance to win. Correctly identify the quilt block illustrated there AND the NQA program that uses the block. Send your answers to editor@nqaquilts.org by September 30. Everyone submitting the correct responses will be entered to win a prize from the show.

We're always on the lookout for members to feature in the "Member's Spotlight" of your membership magazine. Is there someone in your chapter that has done something remarkable related to quilting? Maybe they started a charity effort... perhaps they've developed a unique style of quilting... maybe they've done something extraordinary... perhaps they are an inspiration just because of who they are. Maybe you've done something that you're exceptionally proud of. Don't be shy... share the good news! Help us showcase the noteworthy quilters in our membership. Contact Barbara Polston, Editor, at editor@nqaquilts.org or phone 480-961-5177 (that's in Phoenix, Arizona, so please be mindful of time differences!) Your Quilting Quarterly team is always happy to hear from you!
