From NQA President, Judy Taylor:
Happy New Year NQA!
I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season filled with lots of special time with family and friends.
The start of a new year is always a time for beginnings and resolutions. As a quilter, I always start the year with my best intentions to finish a UFO, enter a quilt show, take a class, and make time to sew with friends. I hope to make this the year I actually keep my heart-felt goals; at least I intend to give it the old college try.
So, what are your 2012 New Year’s resolutions? I hope they include entering a quilt in the 2012 NQA Quilt Show or donating a quilt to the NQA Little Quilt Auction! NQA takes great pride in the creativity and talents of its members and the NQA Quilt Show is the perfect showcase for quilters of all levels to display your endeavors. Whether this is your first time to enter or you are a seasoned pro, this is truly a wonderful celebration of quilting to be shared by all.
Utilizing individual donations and proceeds from the annual Little Quilt Auction, the NQA Grant Program encourages organizations, institutions, and individuals to apply for a grant to enable them to pursue the art of quilt making through education, research, craftsmanship and documentation. Without these donations, our ability to support these endeavors will be directly impacted. We need your donations and your quilt entries so get started now and avoid the last minute rush!
Remember to mark your calendars for the following:
April 30, 2012 - Deadline to enter the NQA Quilt Show
May 19, 2012 – Deadline for your donation quilt to arrive for the Little Quilt Auction
May 26, 2012 – Deadline to pre-register for the Quilt Show or sign up for classes
June 14-16, 2012 – NQA Quilt Show in Columbus, OH
Speaking of the 2012 Quilt Show, sometimes even as hard as we try, we have an oversight in the Registration Brochure. This year was no exception. For those of you, who are taking classes, please note the all-day class numbers end in the numbers 1-19, the morning class numbers end in the 20's and the afternoon class numbers end in the 40's. Should you have any additional questions or need further assistance please contact the Show Registrar, Glen Taylor at glen5245@aol.com, and he will be glad to assist you.
Until next time, Happy Quilting!
Judy Taylor, President

Celebrate National Quilting Day: Coordinator Martha Ethridge
National Quilting Day is March 17th, 2012. Celebrate the day in honor of quilters everywhere and let us know what your plans are to do so! As always, the National Quilting Association encourages quilting at all levels and offers a free pattern with instructions on the website www.nqaquilts.org as well as in our member magazine, The Quilting Quarterly, in the project issue (mailed out in December 2011). The theme for the NQA Annual 2012 Quilt Show is the Mariner’s Compass. As Coordinator for NQA Quilting Day and to inspire you, I created a fun and easy scrappy quilt using a simple Mariner’s Compass. Make it and celebrate your participation in National Quilting Day 2012. Remember, if you have a Mariner’s Compass Quilt you would like to share, enter it in the Mariner’s Compass Exhibit at the show – for more information look on the website under Quilt Show 2012.

From the Chapter Coordinator, Sue Castelli:
Happy New Year, Everyone!
The Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild from Port Charlotte, Florida created the raffle quilt displayed on the NQA Homepage during this month. “After The Storm” is beautiful with coloration that depicts the Gulf waters after a hurricane. Snowbirds and Florida natives should make plans to see this chapter’s upcoming quilt show. This chapter and the other Florida-based NQA chapters have shows scheduled in the next 60 days—make plans to attend!
The smiles on the Chapter Showcase this month are from the members of the West Alabama Quilt Guild from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This established chapter has a long record of charitable service to the community – including 161 quilts made just last year for local residents after the F4 tornado slammed Tuscaloosa. Read about their unique methods to involve young children and schools with their quilting activities—they may have ideas your own chapter can use!
2012 will offer an opportunity for NQA to expand its website service to chapters and individual members. In August 2011, the NQA contracted with GLODERWORKS to maintain its established website and to develop new features.
Gloria Hanson (GLO) and Derry Thompson (DER) are experienced with quilt-related websites and we look forward to announcing three new web pages soon.
